Dr. Michael Maddox has been married to debi, a lifelong oil painter, since May 23, 1970. debi’s art has been featured in fine art gallery exhibitions, and on television programs including HGTV’s Surreal Estate program. During their entire lives, they have been wholly immersed in the arts and entertainment realm, utilizing the various aspects of the fine arts to enrich the lives of others.
They have authored four books with a fifth soon to be published.
Maddox has been actively involved in the arts for over five decades. He is best described as an arts promoter, event organizer, author, and public speaker, with extensive experience in media relations. He has been interviewed on scores of television and radio programs, including network shows.
Michael also produced and hosted a popular FM radio show on Salem Broadcasting featuring interviews with celebrated artists such as John Tesh, Olivia Newton-John, Don Brewer (Grand Funk Railroad), Carl Palmer (Emerson, Lake, & Palmer), Dan Peek (America), Dallas Jenkins (The Chosen), and many others.
Michael served as an International Events Coordinator for over 17 years. He organized and promoted music and arts events at major venues throughout the United States and foreign countries. Such venues included: New York City’s Madison Square Garden; the grounds of the Washington Monument in Washington, DC; and Tafawa Balewa Stadium in Lagos, Nigeria.
Maddox was presented with a Telly Award as Executive Producer of a 30-minute television special, which was broadcast in major markets throughout the U.S. The TV program focused on Michael and debi’s activities from 1992 to 2005 at their 126-acre, Project Peace on Earth headquarters in East Texas. Their property served as an artists’ retreat and counseling center, and was the site for numerous music and art festivals.
In 2008, Michael joined the Board of Directors for the Tri-Lakes Center for the Arts in Palmer Lake. He became the Executive Director of that facility in 2010. Since then, Maddox has orchestrated the growth of the TLCA, working with board members to transform the TLCA from a small town arts and crafts center to a bona fide fine arts gallery and first-class concert destination.
In October of 2014, the Pikes Peak Arts Council presented Maddox with the Arts Champion of the Year Award. The Tri-Lakes Center for the Arts was presented with the Colorado Springs Gazette “Best of the Springs 2018” award in the category of art and entertainment. The TLCA is regularly a finalist for the Tri-Lakes Chamber of Commerce's Nonprofit of the Year Award. Dr. Maddox has for many years been a finalist for the Chamber's Business Person of the Year Award.
Michael also serves as the Rocky Mountain Regional Director for Logos Global Network, which is comprised of churches and ministries throughout the world. He also serves on the Board of Directors for Youth With a Mission Santa Fe with founder Karen Lafferty. Maddox for several years was Mayor Pro Tem for the Town of Palmer Lake and the Water Commissioner. In 2012, Michael was appointed by both the Colorado Springs City Council and the El Paso County Board of Trustees to serve for two years as the Director of Small Municipalities on the Fountain Creek Watershed, Flood Control and Greenway District Board.
